Princess Night: The Akron Club's "Princess Night" project began in 2000. Gently worn Prom gowns are collected from donations from the local community. The gowns and accessories are displayed in a boutique setting in a local church on a designated Saturday morning in April. Area high school girls in need of a Prom dress are invited to attend Princess Night, where they select their free gown. Also available for the girls are complimentary makeovers, jewelry, accessories and light alterations. The Club enlists local college girls to act as "personal shoppers" to help the high school girls try on and choose their gown.
The women of Altrusa International of Akron, Ohio, hosted a FUN-derwear event at St. Luke’s church in Cuyahoga Falls! It
was FUN and it involved UNDERWEAR! Altrusans organized this event to
raise awareness of the Street Outreach Services (SOS) new drop-in center
for homeless youth located on Exchange Street. The event included decadent desserts, a “yoga for
the brain” Zentangle lesson and a presentation by staff of the new
drop-in center. Admission to the event was a package of new underwear…a
much needed resource for their clothing room. Nearly 200 pair of
underwear was collected that evening.
