Karyn Evans, Governor
Highland County, OH

I have been a member of Altrusa International of Highland County since 1995, shortly after it was chartered in June of 1994. I have served as president, president-elect, vice president, secretary, director, and have chaired many committees including Membership and Scholarship. I am currently serving as Program Chair for District Five.

Personally, I have been married to my high school sweet-heart for over 40 years and we have five grown children. With the two expected this summer, we look forward to having 11grandchildren by August.

Professionally, I am Dean of Institutional Advancement and the Adult Opportunity Center at Southern State Community College, where I have worked for over 25 years. My duties include writing grant proposals and providing oversight for all the grants. The Adult Opportunity Center provides a wide variety of services including adult literacy, GED Prep and Testing, College Readiness, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). I have worked on several teams/task forces at the state level and have presented at state and national conferences.

I have been active in my professional organization as president, first and second vice president, director, and membership chair. I have chaired/co-chaired a state, regional, and national conference with registrations of 300-1300.

In my community, I am active in my church and civic organizations. At church, I have served as Sunday School teacher and superintendent; Christian Education Director; member of the church board of directors; Bible School teacher and director; and president, vice president, and secretary of our ladies circle. I have served on the board of Head Start; worked with P-16 councils; participated on the Literacy Council; completed Leadership Highland and served as the Director of the Leadership Foundation. I was a Girl Scout from Brownie to Senior then functioned as Leader and Service Unit Director. I was president of the PTO for two terms. I was a member and officer of AAUW (University Women) for several years.

Outstanding ABLE Administrator, Distinguished Alumni, Green Key Honor Society, and one of 12 partners selected for a national literacy partnership funded by the Readers’ Digest Foundation are some of the awards and recognitions I have received.

Suzanne Cline, Governor-Elect
Altrusa International of Sidney, Ohio

It is my honor serve as the incoming Governor-Elect for Altrusa District Five.  In the coming biennium I will visit half of our Clubs and will work to answer any of the questions that are presented to me.  Please note that as a District Officer, I wish to provide as much support to your group as needed.  I may be reached by email or by phone 937-622-1125.  If emailing, please simply add “Altrusa” in the subject line so that I will recognize and respond as quickly as I can.  Again, I am looking forward to being awarded the opportunity to serve our District over the next two years.

Julie Stratos, First Vice Governor
Branch County, MI

I am very pleased to be able to serve on the District board. My duties will include serving as the District Strategic Planning Coordinator. I have facilitated strategic planning for several local nonprofits and worked on my own club’s plan. It’s something I enjoy (I know I may be a little odd), and I am looking forward to coordinating the District’s plan. I hope to meet many more District Altrusans in my club visits this year to the Battle Creek, Hamilton, Lorain County, and Xenia clubs.
Ginny Beamish, Second Vice Governor
Troy, OH

What exactly does the District Five Second Vice-Governor do? As with any new job, I will know better a year from now, after I have gotten my feet wet. I am looking forward to getting to know the other District Five officers, directors, and chairs.

But I am especially looking forward to Second Vice-Governor Responsibility #8: Become thoroughly knowledgeable about all aspects of Altrusa, particularly District Five, District Clubs and their activities.

I am eager to visit some of your Clubs and to have conversations with many of you as I learn more about the amazing people, projects, and programs that make up District Five.

Christa Morris, Director I
Sidney, OH

Nancy Schwab, Director II
Hamilton, OH

A goal that I am working on is increasing membership in our local club. I am constantly thinking of ways to attract younger people in hopes that they will become members. I find myself making lists of people to approach and places to visit to talk about Altrusa. I plan on continuing this process.

Shelley Kendrick, Secretary

I consider it a privilege to serve as your District Secretary. In this role, one of my goals is to gain insight in how the District operates and the relationship with local clubs and International.
I have been a member of Altrusa International of Akron since 2012. I have served as President, VicePresident and Secretary as well as serving on the Membership and Finance Committees.

Germaine Vonderhaar, Immediate Past Governor
Altrusa International of Hamilton, Ohio

I became an Altrusan in 1994 and have held the positions of Treasurer for two terms, President Elect and President of the Hamilton club. I am currently the Past-President. I Co-Chaired the Finances Committee for two terms and am currently a Co-Chair for the Service Committee. I have chaired our First and Second Annual Adult Spelling Bees for literacy. I assisted in establishing our first ASTRA club at our local high school.

The members of the Hamilton Club have encouraged and supported my various positions in Altrusa. I feel strongly about volunteerism and service in our community. I came from a large family where sharing and caring for each other is a way of life. I serve on the Pastoral Council and the Finance Committee of my church. I also serve as Treasurer at the Oxford Community Arts Center. On a personal note, I graduated from the University of Cincinnati, earning my degree by attending night classes. I retired in 2007 as a Mortgage Loan Officer in the banking profession after working for 30 years. I enjoy reading and working in my flower and vegetable gardens.
