HAVE YOU BEEN WANTING TO SERVE YOUR MICHIGAN/OHIO COMMUNITY MORE ACTIVELY WHILE MAKING NEW FRIENDS?? Think...ALTRUSA, an International service organization composed of nearly 10,000 members who contribute over 1 MILLION hours of service each year.
We are 650+ Altrusans who live in Michigan and Ohio. Historically, we were part of District Four from 1930-1954. By then, we had grown large enough to have our own District Five! By 1977, we were 44 clubs strong.
Today, our 28 clubs serve our communities with projects ranging from Battle Creek, Mi.'s long-running Child Care Center to Akron,Ohio's Princess Night (prom dresses for low-income teens) to our new Braille books for vision impaired kids (Grand Rapids,MI).
We “feed” minds through our Altrusa literacy projects. We “nourish” education via our many Altrusa scholarships. Altrusa, begun in 1917, fills the unmet needs of our communities.
Also, Altrusans, found in over 10 countries, participate in “hands-on” projects, such as the Dayton,Ohio Widow's Home garden maintenance. (Note: Dayton is the 2nd oldest Altrusa club.)
We “plant the seeds” for youth through our ASTRA clubs-guys and gals ages 13-21-growing leadership, responsibility and planning skills.
We may be Wolverines (MI) or Buckeyes(OH) by geography, but in our hearts, we are ALTRUSANS. We all “wear” different hats, but we “wear” the same “shoes” of volunteer service and step forward to support our communities.
District Five Altrusa is actively looking for a few community-minded individuals like YOU to help us provide service in our home towns.
We offer a wide-range of inspiring, rewarding ways to get involved. Check us out! Come join us. Say “YES” to Altrusa! Altrusadsb.@yahoo.com
Yours in service,
Governor K. Schrein
