Pride in ME  (Miami East High School ASTRA)

Troy, Ohio

This year we have eighty members.

We collected Halloween candy and sent it to troops overseas through Operation Gratitude.

We had a Ribbon Awareness Week with a theme & activity for each day:
  • Monday, Breast Cancer Awareness day. We sold stickers at lunch for 25 cents, then sent the money raised to the Susan G. Komen fund.
  • Tuesday was Support Our Troops Day. At lunch we had thank you cards signed and we sent them with the candy to Operation Gratitude.
  • Wednesday was Red Ribbon Day. We set up a table displaying the various chemicals found in cigarettes.
  • Thursday was Animal Awareness day and everyone wore purple to show support for humane treatment of animals.
  • Friday was support Miami East Day with students being encouraged to support the various activities going on during that weekend.

We finished the semester with an Angel Tree Project. Students, staff and community members were encouraged to take an angel from the tree for a donation of gloves, scarves or hats for children in need. We had an overwhelming response and the items were donated to Miami County Children’s Services.

We have many projects planned for the last semester of our 2011-12 school year. We are co-sponsoring with National Honor Society the Wounded Veterans Dodgeball Tournament in February. We will also be working on cards and a trip to a local nursing home, breakfast for the school staff to show appreciation for what they do and we will sponsor Random Acts of Kindness Week. This school year has proven to be a year of dedication, kindness and fun and we still have a whole semester left.
