About Altrusa International of Youngstown, Ohio

The Altrusa Club of Youngstown helps to build a better community through hands-on service chosen specifically to meet the needs of the Mahoning Valley.  We use our leadership abilities, contacts, and commitment to community service to make where we live an even better place.

Altrusa International Youngstown was chartered in 1956.  The mission of the local chapter is to promote literacy in the community through many hands-on projects.

Our Annual Shoppapalooza!  Luncheon, held in October, includes a delicious lunch, fun shopping and social time, plus great raffle prizes. It's a fundraiser for our Annual Book Festival. Contact us for details!

Altrusa’s largest Literacy Project in partnership with Mill Creek Metro Parks, Western Reserve Public Media and the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, is the “PLANT THE SEED TO READ” Book Fair which takes place at the D.D. and Velma Davis Education and Visitor Center, Fellows Riverside Gardens, Youngstown in April of each year.  Altrusa gives out more than 1,000 books to the children who attend.  Nothing beats the joy of seeing the look on a child's face when they get to choose their very own book to take home!
